Here we pose with a Korean soldier. South Korea
has mandatory conscription. Funny story about during the last Asia
games. Park Chan Ho was pitching and supposedly if Korea won, all
the players would be exempt from the mandatory conscription. If
you look to the left of the picture, you will see some people and right
next to them are binoculars. You can look through them and see an actual
North Korean lookout post. Kind of weird and eerie. I
actually saw bodies in the lookout post, of course the North Korean is
probably staring back at us and wondering why people are so curious to
look at them. Also of note is the propaganda that goes on.
The North Koreans have built a city within view of South Korea, but NO
ONE lives there. It is just buildings with no windows and no one
around. Of course, the South Koreans have built a village within
view of North Korea. The village, Tae Song Dong or
Freedom Village, is the only place in South Korea
where one doesn't pay taxes and they all live in relatively large homes
and no mandatory conscription. The catch, you live on the most heavily fortified border in the world and
have to be in your home by 11 pm at night with the doors locked.
